2025 Ford Maverick Beats 2024 Pickup’s EPA Fuel Economy Ratings

Touted as a capable pickup offered at an approachable price, the 2025 Ford Maverick underwent quite a few updates and changes compared to its 2024 model year counterpart. Some of those updates hit the compact pickup’s powertrain lineup, and as a result, the refreshed 2025 Maverick sips less fuel than its 2024 predecessor, making it a bit friendlier at the pump.

The 2025 Ford Maverick offers two different engine options: the turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost I4 and the 2.5L hybrid setup. The base powertrain is the 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder paired with all-wheel-drive (AWD), good for an average 25 mpg, right on par with the 2024 Maverick with the same setup. Upgrading to the 2025 Maverick Tremor, which is geared more toward off-road power, dings those figures a bit, producing 23 mpg overall. That’s still an improvement compared to the 2024 Maverick Tremor, which is good for 21 mpg on average.

Note that the 2.0L EcoBoost is no longer offered with front-wheel-drive, a first since the Maverick’s introduction for the 2022 model year.

Buyers who prioritize fuel economy will be pleased with the 2.5L hybrid’s efficiency. In the 2025 Ford Maverick, that powertrain delivers an impressive 38 mpg when paired with FWD, up from the 2024 model year’s 37 mpg.

Note that there are two powertrains offered on the 2025 Ford Maverick that don’t have a 2024 model year equivalent. Those are the 2.5L hybrid with AWD, which produces 37 mpg combined, along with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine found under the hood of the new sport-focused Lobo trim. The Lobo, while geared toward performance, is still fairly efficient, delivering 24 mpg average from its AWD powertrain.

The 2025 Maverick’s EPA fuel economy ratings differ slightly from the 2022 Maverick, which was the first model year for the compact pickup.

In addition to changes to its engine and drive wheel combinations, the 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid harnesses a new transmission, too: the HF55, replacing the old HF45. The hybrid model’s tougher transaxle ensures that it can haul up to 4,000 pounds, just like its ICE-based brethren.

  1. I’m getting better than EPA ratings. My 24 hybrid has 13K miles and is showing 43.5mpg.

  2. The Maverick truck is decent. However the 2025 Model year front end looks awkward. Previous model year front ends looks better.
