2025 Ford Ranger EPA Fuel Economy Ratings Partially Revealed

The 2025 Ford Ranger is positioned in a sweet spot in The Blue Oval’s pickup lineup. It’s bigger and brawnier than the Ford Maverick, but easier to handle than the full-sized Ford F-150. Offering a range of engines and drivetrains, the Ranger is fairly fuel efficient depending on which powertrain it’s packing, of course. With fuel economy figures out for certain engines in the lineup, prospective buyers can gauge just how often they’ll have to fuel up.

The 2025 Ford Ranger is offered with a choice of three engines: the turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost I4, the turbocharged 2.7L EcoBoost V6, or the twin-turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost V6. Note that the EPA hasn’t released fuel economy ratings for the 2.7L V6 at the time of this writing, so let’s take a look at how much fuel the 2.3L I4 and the mightier 3.0L V6 are rated to burn through.

Starting with models equipped with the 2.3L I4, it’s important to note that this engine can be had with either rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or four-wheel-drive (4WD). RWD models are slightly better on fuel, offering 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. Upgrading to 4WD knocks those figures to 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. Owners of RWD models can expect to pay an average of $2,050 for fuel annually, while 4WD owners should expect to spend $2,150.

Meanwhile, the 3.0 V6 – exclusively found in the 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor – is only offered with 4WD. As expected, this powerhouse is significantly less efficient than the four-cylinder, delivering 16 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined. Ranger Raptor owners should expect to shell out $2,800 for fuel annually.

For the sake of reference, even though the EPA hasn’t released its ratings for the 2025 model year equivalent, the 2024 Ford Ranger equipped with the 2.7L V6 engine is rated for 19 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg overall.

Hot off a complete redesign for the 2024 model year, the 2025 Ford Ranger doesn’t feature many changes or updates. Ford Authority recently outlined what’s new and different for the 2025 Ford Ranger.

  1. all these engines are so complicated built…they give problems..Ford should at least offer a non ecoboost engine in these and some of the rest. and watch there waranty claims and customer happy,,most customer including fleets perfer realibity over horsepower..

      1. Hybrids are fine, but the money you save in fuel will go to the $3000 or so it costs when you have to replace the hybrid battery.

        1. I have been selling vehicles since 2006 and Ford Hybrids since 2010. I have not EVER seen even ONE vehicle need a Hybrid battery. It is VERY rare a battery needs to be replaced. Additionally the cost to purchase a warranty on Hybrids in the Escapes and Fusions and such is actually lower indicating lower repair costs.

  2. It’s not as though I’m expecting 35+MPG when I say this, but does anyone else just find these numbers a bit low?
