The current-generation Ford Ranger pickup just debuted for the 2024 model year, ushering in some notable changes for the mid-size model. Aside from completely revamped exterior and interior styling and the addition of new tech features, those updates also included adding the twin turbocharged 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engine as an option, joining the carryover turbocharged 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost, which was the sole powertrain option in the Ranger previously. However, it seems as if the 2025 Ford Ranger has received a new version of the 2.3L EcoBoost, too.
Ford Authority has confirmed with Ford Truck Communications Manager Dawn McKenzie that the 2025 Ford Ranger features the “all-new” 2.3L modular power cylinder EcoBoost engine, which has already landed in a couple of other Blue Oval models. That list includes the new S650-generation Ford Mustang that debuted for the 2024 model year, as well as the refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer.
Unfortunately, Ford hasn’t shared any detailed technical specifications outlining what makes the new 2.3L EcoBoost engine different from the old one, but we do know that it utilizes Ford’s Modular Power Cylinder (MPC) Engine Architecture, with features including a dual fuel system, port fuel injection, and a 350 bar direct injection setup designed to optimize performance, fuel efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, the revamped 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost gets a new, twin scroll, low-inertia turbocharger with a high speed electronic wastegate, compact variable cam timing (VCT), an integrated air induction system, and an integrated hot side exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.
The 2025 Ford Ranger isn’t the only Blue Oval pickup to receive a new version of an existing powerplant, either – as Ford Authority reported earlier this month, the refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick was also treated to what’s essentially a new version of the turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 engine, which features a brand-new aluminum block and head design, a cast aluminum valve cover, a revised bore stroke, and a new fuel system.

But are they still wet belts?
Just the V6s, 2.3 is gear driven.
The 2.3 and the 2.0 never were wet belts.
The 2025 bronco gets the new 2.3 too. It has a aluminum valve cover instead of the previous versions plastic.
Make a two door super cab
Make a 2 door super cab with the 6 foot bed the four door with the 5 foot bed is ugly I don't need four doors and a 5 foot bed the 2 door with the super cab and 6 foot bed is much better. Ford bring it back.
The 4dr with with the 5ft bed is fine with me. I just needed a vehicle that can carry 4 people and space to load medium size stuff at the back.
Please bring the 2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty to the US market, with the diesel 🙏. And if anyone is really listening, lose the snorkle air intake.
It would be better if they had an extended cab. Other than that, now I want this truck.
