2026 Ford Mustang FX Package Debuts As All-New Fox Body Tribute

About 20 years ago, the Fox Body Ford Mustang was largely seen as a older used pony car for those on a budget. Many examples were used up and discarded as their useful lives ended. But the cyclical nature of automotive enthusiasm has circled back to the platform that went out of production after the 1993 model year, this time in the form of the 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package. Aside from being our first glimpse at a 2026 pony car, it’s explicitly designed to pay homage to a Mustang generation beloved by many enthusiasts.

While the 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package solely includes aesthetic touches, it features a pretty substantial list of changes over a standard GT Premium. The new wheels are perhaps the most the most obvious. Ford opted to solely share pictures of the optional 19-inch wheels that are included on FX Package pony cars with the Performance Package, but examples without the pack will feature a mid-gloss Oxford White painted variant of the 19-inch split-five-spoke design in the current lineup. Either way, both have color-matched center caps stamped with the Mustang GT wordmark, which the automaker says is an all-new font. That wordmark also appeared on the 1987-1993 Mustang, and is featured on the rear window of FX Package coupes.

Beyond the wheels, 2026 Ford Mustang FX package coupes also boast other Oxford White touches on their exteriors. The 5.0L, GT, and Mustang Pony badges all get the treatment, while Performance pack models will get Oxford White nostrils too. Standard models get Dark Carbonized Gray nostrils. In an interesting twist that will likely delight current S650 owners, the white taillights included in the package will also become part of the Ford Performance Parts catalog. Overall, this appears to be a nice continuation and reformatting of what the automaker previously offered with the Ice White Appearance Package.

Additionally, the package also brings some nice changes into the cabin. In a nod to an aesthetic featured throughout the 1980s, the standard and optional Recaro sport seats boast perforated leather with black and white elements, mimicking the plaid inserts from the Fox Body. There’s also dual-contract stitching in City Silver and Adriatic Blue featured on the aforementioned seats, but also on the dash, door panels, steering wheel, and center console. A 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package instrument panel badge rounds out what’s in the package, although the cabin also features Dark Horse trim painted in Dark Alley.

This news confirms that the 2026 Ford Mustang lineup is getting a retro inspired teal paint option, officially named Adriatic Blue Metallic. The FX Package is solely available on GT Premium and can be paired with either transmission or body style, with the Performance Package as another option for buyers. 2026 Ford Mustang order banks open later this month. Before then, we might also learn about what else the automaker is introducing, like the Shelby GT500.

Ed owns a 1986 Ford Taurus LX, and he routinely daydreams about buying another one, a fantasy that may someday become a reality.

  1. And…ANOTHER Mustang variant. Boy, the Mustang Department is certainly working overtime. To the detriment of would-be volume models.

    1. Relax, you can buy an enormous number of old women CUVs.

  2. Mmm, okay. I’m not sure that the connection will be readily recognized by even Mustang aficionados let alone those who are not, without an owner’s explanation. I don’t think it’ll fall into the same category as putting a Shelby or Cobra designation or treatment onto a variety of Mustang generations…but interesting.

    1. I had a Fox-body Mustang for many years, and none of these styling elements look familiar to me or remind me of those years. It’s another feeble to attempt to stay in the headlines without actually investing in the car.

  3. By the way…on a totally different topic…can you please stop posting crash videos? What kind of message are you trying to send out to the public at large? They are not helping the Mustang brand by publicizing a few irresponsible driver’s stupidity in an attempt to try and grab eyeballs.

  4. Look at the instrument cluster. To me, getting a sharp, coordinated, easy to use instrument panel is worth the price of the package

  5. I’m not wild about this FX package, but I love that Adriatic Blue Metallic color! I hope that paint is offered on all Mustangs, and it isn’t a special color for this package only.

  9. I like everything except the wheels, the wheels are hideous and it’s probably a $4k package on an already way over priced GT
