Consumer Reports Picks Ford Mustang Mach-E Over Chevy Blazer EV

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E was treated to some notable updates for its latest model year, though no mid-cycle refresh as of yet. Regardless, those updates were good enough to snag the EV crossover a spot on Consumer ReportsBest EVs of 2025 list, and back in March, that same organization named the Mach-E as a better choice than the Toyota bZ4X, due to its superior predicted reliability and owner satisfaction scores, among other factors. Now, CR has also named the Ford Mustang Mach-E as a better option than one of its other chief rivals.

In its latest list of popular vehicles to avoid and what to buy instead, Consumer Reports picked the Ford Mustang Mach-E over the Chevy Blazer EV, and for a number of reasons. The Blazer EV has an overall score of 39 out of 100 possible points, compared to 68 for the Mach-E, largely due to its below average predicted reliability. CR notes that the Blazer EV has had some “growing pains,” coupled with a stiff ride and sloppy handling, to boot.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E, on the other hand, received above average road testing and predicted owner satisfaction scores, coupled with an average predicted reliability score. The Mach-E returned 299 miles of range in real-world testing with the extended-range battery, and it offers up much faster charging speeds. CR wasn’t a fan of the Mach-E’s ride quality, but otherwise, it performed admirably in every other measurable category.

Unfortunately for The Blue Oval, the 2025 Ford Escape Hybrid didn’t fare quite as well, as it landed on the list of models to avoid. CR noted that while the electrified Escape is a good value, has nimble handling, smooth acceleration, and returns a solid 34 miles-per-gallon on average, its owners also report having a variety of issues with the small crossover. Those include powertrain troubles, along with problems pertaining to the infotainment system, and overall build quality. As a result, the organization recommends that shoppers in this segment look to the Honda CR-V instead, which has a higher overall score and costs only a bit more than the Escape.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. Our 2021 mach e GT Performance fully optioned is a true muscle ev up to 600 ft. Unfortunately Ford wasnt transparent on the power drop off making 1\4 mile runs a second slower. If we knew we would not have purchased it. But nothing can compare to it’s blazing speed red lites to redlite. Ford exceeded expectations on highly quality parts including magniride suspension brembo brakes , massive 17 rotors diffuser front and rear 20 rims sports seats and every ice button plus voice command. 360 camera view full glass roof all put together for a fast comfortable reliable cruiser. Epa 260 is surpassed in summer to 275 miles and it’s a true keeper.

  2. Thst power drop off was to protect the power train. In a gasser Mustang you could have lost the engine or transmission. I prefer to lose power than lose parts!
