Software has become a big part of modern day vehicles, and that’s especially true of the ones coming from Ford Motor Company. A few years ago, The Blue Oval began rolling out vehicles that are capable of receiving over-the-air software updates, which help customers get bug fixes, improvements, and new features while their owners are asleep or simply sitting at home with them parked in the garage. Those updates continue to roll out on a regular basis, and now Ford CEO Jim Farley is hinting at a pretty substantial one himself.
Not all software reviews happen in the CEO’s office, but when they do, it’s usually something cool! Thanks to Jae Park and the digital design and product team for coming by today. Loved the demo! Can’t wait for customers to see it. pic.twitter.com/vpeVLiUJcx

“Not all software reviews happen in the CEO’s office, but when they do, it’s usually something cool!” Farley wrote in a recent post on X. “Thanks to Jae Park and the digital design and product team for coming by today. Loved the demo! Can’t wait for customers to see it.” Farley posted a photo of himself alongside the Ford software team that developed this particular update, along with the teaser caption.
It’s unclear what this new update might entail, but we’ve seen Ford launch a number of them as of late. Most recently, that pertained to the FordPass and Lincoln Way apps, which gained software update scheduling capability, enabling customers to schedule software updates from those applications, rather than having to do it via the vehicle’s infotainment screen. Back in January, Ford also began rolling out a new enhanced software validation process at its dealerships, which is aimed at helping technicians ensure that the correct software is present in a vehicle – addressing an issue that led to some incorrect updates being installed by dealers.

Meanwhile, my ’22 Ranger says “downloading update” every time I get in it. It doesn’t ever seem to get done.
