Ford Fusion Nascar Race Car Up For Auction

NASCAR fans certainly have a large supply of former race cars to bid on via various online collector car auctions these days, as those kinds of retired racers just keep popping up for sale. This isn’t a huge surprise given that series’ enduring popularity and the many cars teams go through in a given season, and it makes perfect sense that a fan might want to own the actual race car once piloted by their favorite driver. Now, they’re getting that chance once again, this time, via a Ford Fusion NASCAR racer that’s currently up for auction.

This Ford Fusion NASCAR race car is listed for sale over at Bring a Trailer after it was built by Ronnie Hopkins Enterprises in the early 2000s and subsequently raced by Chad Chaffin at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, and Atlanta Motor Speedway. The seller acquired it back in 2021, and as one might imagine, it doesn’t really share anything with the production Ford Fusion – rather, we’re looking at a tube chassis wrapped in bodywork with decals that mimic the looks of that mainstream sedan, coupled with things like an adjustable rear spoiler, brake cooling ducts, Goodyear Eagle slicks, and a #35 Powerade livery.

As one might imagine, the interior is all business, fitted with an integrated roll cage, a window net, AutoMeter gauges, a quick-release steering wheel, a fire suppression system, and a Richardson fixed-back bucket seat with a blue fabric pad, a Simpson harness, and head restraints. Power comes from a 351 cubic-inch Ford V8, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, but of course, this former racer isn’t street legal, nor can it be legally registered for such use.

This Ford Fusion is one of a few former NASCAR racers we’ve seen hit the auction block in recent months – a list that also includes a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by Greg Biffle in the NASCAR Busch Series in 2005, as well as another Taurus piloted by Dale Jarrett in the 1999 season, when he won the Cup championship.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
