Impromptu car shows are a great way for automotive enthusiasts to gather and check out what other gearheads have to show off. Nine times of out of 10, everything goes smoothly – at least, until attendees without performance driving experience decide to step on the gas as they leave a gathering. In the case of the Ford Mustang, such stunts have made the pony car infamous for spinning out and crashing, sometimes into crowds of onlookers. On occasion, though, the driver of the Mustang just manages to keep the pony car reined in.
That was true of a pair of Ford Mustang drivers caught on camera exiting a car meet. The first, a dark gray Mustang, tries to show off going around a curve. Unsurprisingly, the back end snaps around and the Mustang ends up taking the corner a little faster than they probably meant to. They overcorrect, which just makes the pony’s nose snake around the other direction.
The driver either overcorrects again or panics at the sight of the curb rushing forward to meet them and yanks the muscle car back the other direction, completing a sloppy set of chicanes on a road they had no business trying to drift. At least they appear to have been scared enough to brake before the next curve instead of gassing it.
The second, a blue Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, does almost exactly the same thing on the same stretch of road. They gas it a bit too much heading around the corner and almost meet a curb, but manage to jerk the car away from trouble at the last possible second. This Ford Mustang driver also seems to have had some sense scared into them and takes the rest of the drive calmly and slowly – at least, from what we can see on the video.
Watching a Ford Mustang misbehave under control of a cocky driver is woefully common. Perhaps owners should take lessons from a driving school that will teach them how to keep the muscle car out of trouble.
