While many shoppers opt to finance or outright buy their new rides, the Ford Mustang Mach-E stands out as a top pick for those looking to lease a new electric vehicle. It’s a trend that’s held steady for months. Most Mustang Mach-E customers chose to lease rather than buy in both Q3 and Q4 of 2024, so comes as no surprise that leasing remained the top choice in the first quarter of 2025.
According to Experian’s Q1 2025 State of the Automotive Finance Market report, a whopping 58.79 percent of Ford Mustang Mach-E customers chose to lease their new electric crossover. Meanwhile, 37.81 percent of owners made the decision to finance and just 3.40 percent paid cash last quarter. For comparison, during Q4 2025, 56.63 percent of Mustang Mach-E customers leased, 38.96 percent financed, and 4.41 percent paid cash.
The Mustang Mach-E isn’t an outlier in that regard, as most of the top 10 best-selling EVs exhibited similar results during the same timeframe. Most Honda Prologue, Chevy Equinox EV, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID.4, and Chevy Blazer EV customers chose to lease rather than purchase, too. However, among them, most Tesla owners financed their EVs instead of leasing or purchasing.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E began to attract more leasers than buyers throughout the course of 2024. Most customers opted to financing the electric crossover at the start of the year, though by the third quarter, the majority trended toward leasing instead. There are a few reasons for the notable pivot, but it can be in part attributed to some enticing lease offers from Ford. In some cases, The Blue Oval offered its electric crossover for as low as $159 per month over 24 months – although $4,999 was due up front.
Currently, the biggest Ford Mustang Mach-E incentive includes employee pricing program for everyone nationwide, which is extended into July. Time will tell if this incentive nudges more Mustang Mach-E buyers toward financing or buying outright rather than sticking with the lease route.

One other reason for the increase in leasing could be that Ford has announced a major redesign of the Mach-E to be introduced in 2027. I would lease now and then buy when the new version comes out. Because resale vales of the version one Mach-E will be worth a lot less….
