The first-ever Ford Ranger PHEV (plug-in hybrid) model debuted back in September 2023, bringing an electrified option of the popular midsized pickup to certain global markets. The Ranger PHEV recently launched in Australia, albeit without a trade-oriented commercial option. Europe is next in line, and deliveries of the plug-in pickup recently kicked off, putting it in the hands of its buyers.
Production of the Ford Ranger PHEV is already well underway at The Blue Oval’s assembly plant in Silverton, South Africa, and deliveries in Europe commenced not too long ago, too. The Ranger PHEV offers up to 43 kilometers (roughly 26.7 miles) of all-electric driving range, and still supports the same towing and off-road capabilities as the gasoline-powered Ranger.
For Europe, the Ford Ranger PHEV launched with the Stormtrak launch edition along with the Wildtrak and XLT variants. Notable features include Ford Pro Power Onboard, which is a first for the Ranger lineup. That grants access to 6.9 kW of power, providing electricity for tools and other equipment out in the field.
“Ford knows pickups. Now we’ve combined decades of know-how, input from the customers that use Ranger for work and play every day, and innovative hybrid technology to create the Ranger PHEV,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe. “Ranger PHEV can do everything Ranger does, with the added benefit of versatile electric power for more torque than ever, driving with zero tailpipe emissions in the city or running a worksite in the wilderness.”
The Ford Ranger nameplate was the best-selling pickup in 10 individual European markets in 2024, accounting for more than half of all pickup sales in four European markets, including Britain and Germany. More than 500,000 units of the Ranger have found homes in Europe since the model was launched in 2012.
At this time, The Blue Oval does not intend to bring the Ford Ranger PHEV to customers in the U.S., at least not anytime soon. There’s just too much demand for the gasoline-powered model and not enough for a PHEV variant. Even so, Ford has indicated that it plans to add an electrified powertrain option across the entire ICE-focused Ford Blue lineup by 2030, which would presumably include the Ranger, too.

Bring the hybrid Ranger to the U.S. to complete the hybrid trio between the F-150 and the Maverick hybrids. Toyota is already announcing the Tacoma hybrid which is the competition to the Ranger.
F must be afraid that Ranger PHEV sales would take away from F 150 Hybrid sales more so then vs. Tacoma, GM sales of Hybrid mid sized trucks. Not sure that I agree with that premis, better to offer the best PHEV and Hybrid options for the F 150, 250, Ranger and Maverick and let the best truck win.
