Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a garage management system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on November 29th, 2023, published on May 29th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0172030.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has published its fair share of garage-related patents as of late, presenting us with ideas for a way to eliminate the unexpected activation of vehicle components when that vehicle is parked in a garage, a system designed to monitor animals in a garage, and a system and method for targeted communication inside of that same type of structure. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with a new idea – this time, for a garage management system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
As Ford points out in this patent, many newer vehicles come equipped with garage door management systems that enable them to control the operation of those doors by using dedicated actuators. However, there may be times when users may want enhanced features for such a task, and that’s where this patent would come into play. Put simply, this system would be able to detect when vehicles are already parked inside of a garage and in which spot they’re parked in, and determine which spots are available. From there, it could notify the driver of that information before they open the garage door, so they could head in the right direction, and even control the garage door automatically as well.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”

Novel idea, problem is it will fail as many things on Fords lately.
