Super Ford Mustang Mach-E Details Revealed Ahead Of Pikes Peak

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is equal parts breathtaking and brutal, and Ford has made the mountain its proving ground, taking several of its electric demonstrators to the switchbacks of Colorado. The Blue Oval has been successful, too, kicking ass with its Ford Transit SuperVan on the course in 2023 while its Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck did the same just one year later. This year, the Super Ford Mustang Mach-E is headed for the hills, and the automaker revealed some key details of the build with the race less than one week away.

The Super Ford Mustang Mach-E will be piloted by Romain Dumas, who drove both the SuperVan and F-150 Lightning SuperTruck racers. As for the vehicle itself, the Super Mustang Mach-E was developed in conjunction with STARD Advanced Research and Development. It’s lighter than the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, has better handling, features enhanced regen abilities, and a more balanced weight distribution system.

“We’re continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible with electric vehicles,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance in a press release. “This Super Mustang Mach-E demonstrator represents the next stage in our electrification journey – lighter, leaner, just as powerful, and more capable in high-altitude competition.”

Power is provided by three STARD UHP 6-Phase motors that produce over 1,400 horsepower. They’re powered by 50kWh Li-polymer NMC pouch cells. The racer operates on a 799V voltage too, but the revised configuration has shed weight to the tune of over 260 pounds.  The electric racer is also kitted with a carbon braking system and forged magnesium wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires, which are more than capable of handling the 12.42-mile course.  The brake and tire combo allows the Mach-E to generate 6,900 pounds of downforce at 150 miles per hour, which apes the F-150 Lighting SuperTruck.

“After last year’s incredible run with the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck and SuperVan 4.2 before it, I’m honored to be back with Ford to take on this challenge once again,” said Dumas. “This Mach-E is a different beast and we’re excited to see what it can do on the mountain.”

The electric demonstrator wears the No. 310, commemorating Ford Performance’s third Pikes Peak entry and its 10th overall run up the fourteener. The 103rd running of the Pikes Peak hill climb is scheduled for June 22nd, 2025.
