The Mercury Tracer was a common sight on the roadways during its production run, which spanned the 1987-1999 model years, and that was also the case for years after its discontinuation. However, today, we certainly don’t come across a lot of Mercury Tracer models in any kind of condition, and that’s particularly true of older models – such as those from the first generation. That makes this 1989 Mercury Tracer hatchback a pretty cool and unique find, especially since it has very few miles on the clock.

This 1989 Mercury Tracer hatchback is up for sale on Craigslist in Newburgh, New York, and is easily one of the lowest-mile examples in existence, we’d wager. It’s a two owner special that has just 18,831 miles showing on the odometer, with an asking price of $6,500. By all accounts, that low mileage total is believable given the car’s current condition, which looks like it’s about as close to new as an early Tracer can get these days.

The tan exterior certainly looks no worse for wear, and we can’t spot any major flaws there via the pictures provided. The bumpers, chrome trim, and wheel covers look to be in solid condition, and that’s also true of the two-tone brown and tan interior. There, we can see some typical wear on the cloth seat bolsters, but otherwise, there’s no damage visible – the dash isn’t cracked, and there are no rips or tears that we can spot, either.

Under the hood, one will find a naturally-aspirated 1.6L four-cylinder engine, which is fuel injected and mated to an automatic transmission. The engine bay is quite clean as well, and is joined by a pretty simple vehicle in today’s rather complicated world – one with manual roll up windows that’s also exempt from the state’s emissions testing, it seems. For anyone seeking precisely that, this Mercury Tracer sure seems like a pretty solid deal at its current asking price.
