Vaughn Gittin Jr., the visionary behind RTR Vehicles, specializes in building cars that toe the line between street legal and track-ready. Designed with drifting in mind, these machines are built to go sideways with style. He’s perhaps most well-known for the Ford Mustang RTR, and a recent partnership with rapper T-Pain produced something that the world hasn’t seen yet: a convertible “Vert” version of the drift-ready pony car.
The Ford Mustang RTR Vert rides on RTR’s Spec 5-FD, which boasts the same chassis setup, suspension, and Aero 5 wheels as the Mustang that represents RTR in Formula Drift. It features fully custom carbon fiber ducted speedster humps, which are designed and fabricated in-house, offering style and function to cool the 3.0L Whipple supercharger under the hood. That supercharger sits on top of a 5.0L Gen 4 Ford Performance Aluminator crate engine, together producing 1,000 horsepower.
As though it didn’t already stand out from the herd, T-Pain’s Ford Mustang RTR Vert is painted metallic pearl pink. Almost every body panel is composed of carbon fiber aside from the front and rear bumper covers, featuring an unmistakable carbon fiber weave pattern. The hot pink livery was inspired by T-Pain’s Nappy Boy Automotive brand.
“T-Pain is as much a car enthusiast as he is a musician, and being part of his rapid progression in drifting- and his Nappy Boy Automotive movement – is something we’re incredibly proud of at RTR Vehicles,” Gittin. “It started with building him the special ‘C137’ Mustang RTR Spec 2 just a couple of years ago. Now, he was ready to level up, and that’s exactly what we did with the first-ever Mustang RTR Spec 5-D Convertible. The RTR team absolutely nailed this build, blending our performance philosophy with a style that only T-Pain and RTR could pull off.”
The ridiculous pink Ford Mustang RTR Vert isn’t the only insane build from Gittin and RTR. They slapped a 7.3L Godzilla V8 engine in a Ford Bronco and let it rock – and the Mustang RTR is on its way to the mass market, representing the high-performance EcoBoost variant in the lineup.
