2025 Ford Mustang Stolen During Test Drive, But Thief Promptly Caught

The Ford Mustang has long been a popular target among thieves for some pretty obvious reasons – we are talking about a sporty, fast, and desirable machine, one that’s fun to drive and also more likely to give thieves a shot at actually evading the long arm of the law. Thus, we’ve seen our fair share of stolen pony car stories over the years, many of which involve high speed chases and other dramatic events that unfold after the fact. The latest comes to us from Silsbee, Texas, where a man stole a 2025 Ford Mustang directly from a dealership while performing a test drive.

According to Automotive News, the man went to Silsbee Ford and asked to test drive a 2025 Ford Mustang, after which a salesperson joined him for that ride. However, during the test drive, the man pulled a gun on the salesperson and proceeded to make off with the pony car. Trouble is, the thief forgot one little detail – he left his driver’s license at the dealership while he was on that test drive, so it was pretty easy for law enforcement to identify him.

It wasn’t long before the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office spotted the stolen Mustang and successfully executed a traffic stop, at which point the thief was arrested without incident. Luckily, no one was hurt, and now, the man is facing a litany of charges including aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, with bond set at $230,000.

“We want to thank Silsbee PD, Hardin County, Jasper County, Tx DPS, and everyone else who acted so swiftly to apprehend the suspect involved in an armed car theft this afternoon at Silsbee Ford,” the dealership wrote in a statement. “We’re so grateful no one was injured and that our team handled it so professionally. For obvious reasons, we will no longer be marketing vehicles using the term ‘drive it like you stole it.'”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
