Ford CEO Jim Farley: ‘AI Will Replace Half Of All White Collar Workers’

Artificial intelligence is all the rage these days, and we aren’t just talking about folks using that type of technology to create funny pictures or shockingly realistic videos – rather, AI has also become a powerful tool for companies as well. That includes Ford, which has already embraced AI in its production and development processes, to name just a couple, and thus far, that investment has paid off big time in terms of catching quality issues early in the process and reducing inefficiencies. However, it seems as if Ford CEO Jim Farley believes that the same tech may wind up replacing a large number of human workers, too.

“Artificial intelligence is going to replace half – literally half – of all white collar workers in the U.S.,” Farley said during an appearance at the 2025 Aspen Ideas Festival. It’s a bold statement that’s sure to conjure up some controversy, but also, not one that’s terribly difficult to believe, given the way the world has changed over the past couple of years due to the emergency of AI.

While AI is far from perfect – we’ve seen our fair share of fake news stories gain traction because of it – the tech has also improved by leaps and bounds as of late. Ford has teamed up with a variety of AI-focused companies recently for a number of reasons, after all – to give its dealers powerful artificial intelligence tools to help improve their efficiency and prospective shopper targeting practices, and also adopting AI to help improve customer service, in fact.

Ford South America also recently teamed up with a company called Relex Solutions to roll out new AI-based software in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, and Colombia, helping to reinvent a substantial supply chain that consists of 600 suppliers, 10 distribution centers, 150,000 SKUs, and 400 dealers. Relex’s AI platform will help Ford reduce manual workload and optimize inventory levels, which is particularly important when dealing with slower-moving items, all while enabling more precise forecasting capabilities.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

    1. AI could most definitely do Farley’s job. Ford could save millions not needing to pay his salary for his crappy decisions.

Lot of talk about AI but not sure where the tax base is going to come from when we lose job. Blue or white, robots don’t pay taxes….
