Making a left turn on a green light across traffic is completely legal, but it does require some forethought on the part of the party turning left to make sure the intersection is clear before they attempt it. The driver of a Ford Super Duty dually didn’t pause long enough to make sure they weren’t going to intercept traffic and ended up catching a Mazda Protege across the nose and causing a bad wreck that didn’t have to happen.
The wreck happened on Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 30th, 2025. The driver of the Ford Super Duty heads toward a green light to make an unprotected left turn. They did brake before starting the turn, but it clearly wasn’t with intent to allow cross traffic to clear the intersection. A Mazda Protege is headed the other direction, and there’s nothing they can do to avoid the impact.
The Protege spins off the nose of the Ford Super Duty dually. It’s not a light impact. There’s the horrible crunch of crushing metal followed by the screech of tires as it goes sideways. While it’s not caught on film, the accident bloomed into a larger impact when the Protege backed into a power pole, damaging the rear end, too.
The original poster states that the driver of the Mazda Protege was able to exit the sedan under his own power and did not sustain major injuries, although they mention that he sustained a sore neck and a minor cut. There is no word on the condition of the Ford Super Duty Driver, and no mention on whether or not either vehicle was totaled – although it’s difficult to imagine the Protege ever being safe enough to drive again.
When you’re driving a large vehicle like the Ford Super Duty or Ford F-150, it’s wise to yield to traffic around you even though it might not be easy to see – although this F-150 driver seems to have had no excuse to plow into a massive semi truck beside them.
