Third-Gen Ford Explorer Skillfully Evades Spike Strip, Does Some 4WD Drifting

We’ve certainly seen our fair share of Ford-involved police chases over the years, which – more often than not – end badly for those trying to evade the long arm of the law. If those perpetrators are lucky, they’ll simply give up before something bad happens, but typically, that doesn’t happen until an accident has occurred. Sometimes, these accidents can be quite severe, and no matter what happens, fleeing the law has additional consequences – including more charges. However, this Ford Explorer driver did manage to at least evade a spike strip that police tossed in front of the SUV recently.

In this video recently posted on Facebook, we get to see this rather impressive feat in action, even if it’s something that we’d obviously never recommend someone do, for obvious reasons. In the short clip, we can see an officer emerge from the side of the road and throw a spike strip across the road, after which the speeding Ford Explorer and the rather large group of police cars chasing it come into view.

Rather than drive across that spike strip, the Ford Explorer driver instead steers to the left and avoids it completely, after which the driver cuts the wheel sharply to the right to avoid hitting another vehicle head-on. Things just get crazier from there, as the driver whips their SUV back around to the left and then the right, executing a perfect drift while avoiding yet another car.

The Explorer then slides into the parking lot of a Family Dollar, unharmed, but sadly, the video ends at this point. It’s unclear what happened afterward, or if the driver managed to get away – though honestly, given how many cars were pursuing it, that’s probably not likely. Regardless, we can at least appreciate that the driver in this instance has some impressive driving skills.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. Nice Scandinavian flick!

  2. Maybe the officer should have been wearing a ghillie suit for better concealment and he’s timing was a tad bit off!

  3. By the looks of this Explorer, it appears they aren’t that skilled. Large dents on both sides of the vehicle.
