The Duratec 25, also known as the Mondeo V6, or Mazda GY engine, is a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder from Ford Motor used to power midsize cars, minivans and sport utility vehicles, also known as SUVs. Featuring a dual overhead cam (DOHC) design, in a V configuration, the Ford Duratec 25 V6 engine has been part of the Ford Duratec engine family since 1994.
While this engine first saw usage in North America in the Ford Contour, it also day viewed in the Ford Mondeo for other markets. Ford received help from Porsche and Cosworth for the development of this engine, which shares several mechanical components with the Ford 3.0L Duratec 30 engine. A partnership with Mazda also means this engine was commercialized in Japan under the Mazda GY name, with a derivative called the Mazda K engine, which powered both the Ford Probe and Mazda MX-6 sport coupes. A high performance SVT variant was introduced in 1998, with a final update in 1999 to power the last generation Mercury Cougar.
