The Ford Motor Company Sanand Vehicle assembly plant is located in the city of Sanand, in the Ahmedabad district or the Indian state Gujarat. As a part of the Ford India Private Limited collaboration, the facility, along with its sister plant, the Ford Motor Company Chennai assembly plant, constitutes the sixth largest car manufacturer in India after Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, Tata and Mahindra.
The Ford Motor Company Sanand Vehicle assembly plant is characterized by its unique and modern architectural approach. It’s a flat, 460-acre site containing five acres of vehicle and engine assembly plants, along with a test track. It currently overseas the production vehicles and engines destined to the Indian market like the Ford Figo and Ford Figo Aspire, as well as variations of the Ford 1.5L EcoBoost Dragon engine. The plant has an annual production capacity of 240,000 vehicles 270,000 engines.
The facility itself is laid out along a central axis, connecting an administration block, cafeteria, and courtyard. Offering a sense of depth, the plant enables workers to approach each shop via the shortest possible route. With outside temperatures exceeding 104° Farenheit, the complex is equipped with facades that provide heat-mitigating shade.

Historical Timeline
- 1926: FIPL begins vehicle production as a subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company of Canada.
- 1954: FIPL in loss and the company is shut down.
- 1995: Ford re-enters the Indian market as Mahindra Ford India Limited, a 50-50 joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. Ford increases its interest to 72% and renames the company Ford India Private Limited. The total investments made by Ford Motor Company stands at $2 billion.
- 2014: Production for the Indian market Ford Figo and Figo Aspire begin at the Sanand plant.
