2019 Ford Explorer

The 2019 Ford Explorer is expected to receive a handful of minor changes, after the Explorer received a second update/facelift for the 2018 model year.

The 2019 Explorer will represent the ninth model year of the fifth-generation Explorer. As such, it is expected to be the last model year of the fifth-gen model before the all-new 2020 Explorer launches the sixth generation of the Explorer nameplate.

Following are the changes, updates, and new features we expect for the 2019 Explorer:

  • No changes to exterior
  • No changes to interior
  • Potential changes to exterior color selection
  • Potential changes to packages and equipment groups

The updates and changes described here are specific to the U.S. market and may be different for other markets.

Body Styles

The 2019 Ford Explorer is offered as a full-size, five-door crossover utility vehicle (CUV).

The vehicle is offered for police duty as the Ford Police Interceptor Utility.

Platform

Like all fifth-generation units of the Ford Explorer, the 2019 Explorer rides on the Ford D4 platform shared with the following vehicles:

  • Ford Flex
  • Lincoln MKT

Powertrain

The 2019 Explorer is expected to carry over the same powertrain (engines and transmissions) from the 2017 and 2018 Explorer.
