Yes, the rumor is true, the 19×8.5 Et40 Axe CS Lite wheels do fit on a 2020 Connect and with room to spare. These wheels were purchased from England and shipped to the US custom duty free and mounted right up with a set of wheel rings to fit the van. However, the most difficult part came when selecting tires for the new wheels. With the help of Discount Tire, We went through 5 sets of tires in less than 4 months. it wasn’t looking hopeful we’d find a tire that works on the van. All those tires we tried have weak sidewalls, thus producing an over flexing issue. Often it would seem as if the tires would pop off the rims and twice white the Kumho brand, we slid into curves and lost control.
We had only two tires left to try on the van. A random set of runflats and the Nokian G4’s. We selected the G4’s and that was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. These tire grip everything no matter what the road condition or weather condition. We’ve just put 5K miles on them and returned to Discount Tire to have them checked for balance and rotated. The Axe wheel can withstand 1688 lbs while the tires are load rated 98 XL.

After 5K miles on these Nokian G4 tires has really impress us. It’s like we’re wanting to drive because of this, the wife and fight over who driving to work in the morning. The story goes we went though 5 set of different brand name tires and ended up with the Nokina G4 tires. Those “other” tires have a sidewall over flexing issue, when we would enter into curves the tires would flex or over flex cause the van front wheel to over steer thus sliding into curves. A lot of this is due to the van’s sharp turning radius. These Nokian G4’s are very sticky in all types of weather and road conditions. if you haven’t looked into a set of these tires for your sports car, then you need to.

Though it best to update this topic once more.. because we were in such a rush and excited to have located a set of 19” wheels we missed on critical issue.. My 2 ton floor jack which is always in the van, can’t lift the van off the ground high enough to extract the wheels. Even at it’s highest limit the wheel/tire isn’t up high enough off the ground to rotate of clean the wheels and tires. In order to correct this, one would have to buy a 4 ton jack which has a higher lift then the 2 ton. But keeping in the van was out of the question. Plus there’s no way I can lift this 4 ton jack in and out of the van. One simple solution was to use a set of barbells and I took these to the shop and had them weld up a cradle which the 2 ton jack fits into. The barbells have stop sign sharped weights so there’s no chance of the floor jack rolling. I mean if I had my own shop, then I would purchase a 4 ton. But even the scissor jack which came with the van could not lift the van high enough. it’s not the best solution, but at least it works in case we actually need the rotate, change a flat of just cleaning the wheels.
