Just bought a 2017 F150 4×4 Crew Cab 3.5L EcoBoost, Love the truck (Built in Dearborn plant) but after 3 weeks, I’ve noticed a ticking noise after engine start up within 30 seconds. The dealer gave me a 30-day warranty on the engine – which is up in 4 days. Since I bought the truck in Waldorf, Maryland. and live 2.5 hours away in Yorktown Virginia, I’m having a Ford Dealer here perform a diagnostic on the engine. It would appear that the phase cables MIGHT be the issue. Truck only has 68K miles on it. I really hate to take it back, where they either have to fix it, or refund my big down payment.

The rep at the Ford dealership said the warranty on the phase cables expired January of this year.
    Not good…

Probably a timing chain / cam issue. mine had the same problem, mine was repaired under warranty. This is fairly common on those engines of that year, hopefully the dealer honors his warranty.
