Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023-2025 Ford Escape and 2025 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles due to improperly manufactured cylinder heads.

The defect: in affected vehicles, during operation, engine cylinder head ball plugs can be ejected from the cylinder heads due to insufficient ball plug retention force. As a result, an oil leak can occur.

The hazards: if an oil leak occurs near an ignition source – such as a hot engine or exhaust components – the risk of a fire increased. Also, oil loss can subsequently cause an engine seizure, resulting in the loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: cylinder head.

Affected vehicles: select 2023-2025 Ford Escape crossovers built at the Hermosillo Assembly plant between April 14th, 2023 and May 5th, 2025 and select 2025 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs built between November 15th, 2024 and April 7th, 2025.

Number of vehicles affected: 362 Ford Escape crossovers and 42 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs.

The fix: dealers will replace the cylinder head assembly.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin June 23rd, 2025.

  • Would be nice to know which engine is involved. More engine troubles for Ford. Getting a reputation....

  • 2.0 litre eco boost is crap…had to replace mine in my Lincoln MKZ and Ford/Lincoln left me on the hook for $8200.00. Beware of eco boost engines.
    Never buy a ford again.

  • With such a low vehicle count affected, it must be an uncommon engine option.
I agree with everyone else, it would be nice to know the engine combination that will be subject to this recall.

  • 404 recalls vs. GM's 600K + and Toyota's 110K + total engine replacements seems like F is doing OK. When a company builds over 2M vehicles a year I'll take these low vehicle count recalls as a trend to improved QA.

  • Its only June 15, 2025, Ford Motor Company already has had more than 50 recalls affecting over 1.8 million vehicles. It's possible that the number may exceed 3 million vehicles recalled by December 31, 2025. The question is, how many more vehicles does Ford Motor Company have to recall before Failure Farley is fired? Failure Farley only cares about himself and not the customer.
