This past January, The Blue Oval recalled select 2021-2024 Ford Bronco models over an issue with the rear shock absorbers after it discovered that those units may corrode and fail, resulting in detachment of the external reservoir. This issue pertains specifically to Ford Bronco Badlands and Sasquatch Package-equipped models equipped with Bilstein long flange rear shock absorbers. However, Ford didn’t have a remedy available for this issue at the time, but now, those details have arrived.
According to Bronco Nation, FoMoCo has come up with a remedy for Ford Bronco models impacted by this particular issue, and it just shared that information with its dealer network. It’s instructing dealers to replace those faulty, failed shocks, or to clean units that pass inspection. Dealers will also apply Motorcraft TA-357 High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the shock’s flange and install a shock absorber reservoir retention clamp. That latter part utilizes a new design compared to the smaller rock shield present in older units to make it beefier.
To determine whether or not these Bilstein shocks need to be replaced, dealers will look for leaks, broken welds, and cracks. If only one rear shock shows these issues, both will be replaced, regardless. If both shocks pass inspection, dealers will apply the aforementioned preventative measures, which involve apply silicone and the new retention clamp. Regardless, all of these repairs will be completed free of charge, as is always the case with safety recalls.
Ford Bronco owners impacted by this recall will begin receiving letters today, and dealers are already scheduling inspection appointments. Owners can set up an appointment via the FordPass app or via the dealer directly, too. For those that have experienced a shock failure already that wound up replacing them at their own expense, they may be eligible for a refund.

I'm glad I opted for Fox shocks on my '25 Badlands as this "fix" doesn't look like it necessarily solidly fixes the problem. I just hope my Fox shocks don't end up having issues like the Bilstein shocks have.
