The Block name is a familiar sight in rally racing circles, and Lia Block has now taken up the mantle for her late father, Ken Block. Lia Block recently returned to the rally racing scene for a one-off event in the Boone Forest Rally. In fact, about a month before that Rally, Lia stepped behind the wheel of the very Fiesta Rally3 race car that carried her in that rally – one that belongs to none other than her mother, Lucy Block, detailing the experience in a video.
This Ford Fiesta Rally3 was built by M-Sport Poland, meaning it’s representative of a model that was never released in the U.S. It harnesses a 1.5L I3 engine producing 215 brake horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, relayed via its five-speed sequential engine. Lucy teaches Lia how to handle the vehicle, and points out some unique features – like the custom door cupholder and the Bluetooth stereo system.
Lucy takes control of the tough little racer first, turning it loose for some warmup laps before turning it over to Lia. Then, it’s Lia’s turn, although she has a challenge ahead of her: she has “rally programming,” but then spent two years road racing before returning to the rally scene. That means mentally adjusting steering and acceleration timing, but it all comes back to her in short order, proving that the rally brain never really takes a backseat.
With some experience behind the wheel, Lia is now ready for her return to Rally racing. The vehicle gets a brand new wrap, with prominent Hoonigan branding, ready to hit the course at Boone Forest.
Block is the youngest driver to boast an ARA National championship, winning the O2WD title at just 16 years old. In 2023, she competed in the Lake Superior Performance Rally, where she drove a Subaru WRX. She ran as high as third before running off the road early on the rally’s second day. The Ford Fiesta Rally3 is the perfect vehicle for her return to rally – and the rare machine holds a special place in the hearts of performance drivers all over the U.S., even though it was never sold there.
