Lincoln Aviator Rival Cadillac XT6 Still Heading To The Junkyard

After previously committing to transition to a fully-electric lineup in the coming years, waning demand has since prompted General Motors to scale back those plans, in a big way. Now, Ford’s cross-town rival plans to continue selling ICE vehicles for the foreseeable future, and that even includes ones falling under its luxurious Cadillac brand, which was previously expected to go full EV, regardless. In fact, GM may wind up reviving the XT5, as Ford Authority recently reported, but it doesn’t seem as if the Cadillac XT6 – a Lincoln Aviator rival – will be spared from the scrapyard.

According to GM Authority, production of the Cadillac XT6 is still slated to end, but now, that will apparently happen even sooner than previously expected. The last Cadillac XT6 is now expected to roll off the line at the company’s Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee on October 7th, 2025, which is a bit earlier than the previous date of November 26th. As for the XT5, its last day of production at the same facility is set for October 3rd.

Both the XT5 and XT6 were previously slated to be discontinued as part of Cadillac’s plan to transition to an all-electric lineup, but those plans have changed in recent months. However, it’s worth noting that the XT6, specifically, hasn’t exactly been selling like hotcakes, which also may have played into this decision. Cadillac sold 4,778 XT6 crossovers in Q1 2025, which ranked it near the bottom of the pack in the ultra-competitive luxury E-utility segment.

As for the XT6, General Motors is now considering keeping the Cadillac XT5 in its North American lineup, continuing to offer more ICE-powered models rather than transitioning to nothing but EVs in the short term. If this is the case, Cadillac would reportedly bring the second-generation XT5 already on sale in China to the U.S., which features an overhauled exterior and interior compared to its predecessor, but otherwise, no massive changes.
