While the Ford E-Transit has found some success among commercial customers, its rivals continue to face a bit of tough sledding – compounded by softer demand for EVs, in general. In fact, The Blue Oval recently pushed back its production start dates for the next-generation E-Transit and Ford F-150 Lightning to 2028, and has already slashed its production target for the future pickup. As for Ford’s crosstown rival Chevrolet, it already paused production of its all-electric Brightdrop van lineup due to soft demand in April, and now, it’s doing precisely that again.
According to GM Authority, production of the 2026 model year Chevy Brightdrop EV van was originally scheduled to begin on July 14th, 2025 at the CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, but now, that has been pushed to November 17th. Most recently, GM informed the Canadian union Unifor that would be pausing Brightdrop production and temporarily laying off workers at that plant before bringing them back for a limited production run in May, after which the plant was set to be idled until October for a 2026 model year retooling.
“General Motors is making strategic production adjustments in alignment with expected slower EV industry growth and customer demand by leveraging our flexible ICE and EV manufacturing footprint,” GM spokesman Kevin Kelly said in a statement.”GM’s U.S. manufacturing footprint remains our strength, and we are in the process of investing nearly $5 billion over the next two years to further increase domestic vehicle production, enabling the ability to assemble more than 2 million vehicles per year in the U.S.”
“This is a crushing blow to hundreds of working families in Ingersoll and the surrounding region who depend on this plant,” Unifor National President Lana Payne said of this decision back in April. “General Motors must do everything in its power to mitigate job loss during this downturn, and all levels of government must step up to support Canadian auto workers and Canadian-made products.”

This 'vehicle' has been a joke from the start. For the original press intro they pushed it into the room. Once all the government money ran out reality set in.
