Ford V10 Powered Lincoln Continental Blows Its Engine: Video

Jack and Diego of the aptly named YouTube channel Build It Yourself have been on a long mission to turn a wrecked Lincoln Continental into a Ford V10 powered beast. Things appeared to be going smoothly for a while – perhaps a bit too smoothly – but in a recent update on the build, the team revealed some disheartening news: that custom built V10 unfortunately blew.

The original plan was to get the Lincoln Continental build up and running in spotless condition before SEMA 2025, which, at the time the video was recorded, was just over two months away. Things progress appear to be progressing as normal as Jack and Diego give the vehicle some finishing touches, but then, they reappear with the worst news possible. While taking it on a test drive to record some exhaust sound for the viewers, the Lincoln Continental’s Ford V10 engine laid down.

The failure started as most do. A “funny noise” alerted both of them to a potential problem, but they proceeded anyway. They get the Continental home and lift the engine out to check out the carnage. After a teardown, they narrow it down: a bearing went nuclear, although there’s evidence that more than one problem could have occurred at once. The damage isn’t too bad, but it’s going to need new bearings, and some parts will be sent off to the machinist for some attention.

Even with the engine kaput, Jack and Diego still want to take the vehicle over to get painted, which means they have to tear everything down anyway. That, right there, solidifies their commitment to seeing the project through, although it might not be feasible before SEMA, at least not this year.

Jack explains that they’re going to get the paint looking all “shiny” and fit it with some extra customization to make it stand out even more – not that it needs it – but acknowledges that they’ve got a long road ahead of them.
