The Ford Ranchero was produced from 1957 through 1979, existing in many forms over that time span. That particular model enjoyed its fair share of success as well, as FoMoCo sold over a half-million examples during its time on this planet. The part-car, part-truck was based on a variety of vehicles over those years, including the full-size Ford passenger car of the late ’50s, the Ford Falcon, Ford Fairlane, Ford Torino, and LTD II. Some of them have become quite collectible, and that should bode well for this 1974 Ford Ranchero that’s set to be auctioned off soon.
This particular 1974 Ford Ranchero is scheduled to cross the block at Mecum’s 2025 Las Vegas auction next month, and it’s a bit more special than most. In fact, according to the included Elite Marti Report, it’s the only one produced that model year in this particular guise, and with its specific list of options. The Ranchero has 50k miles showing on the odometer, and was treated to a restoration across the span of two years, leaving it looking better than new.
As it sits, this Ford Ranchero sports its original bodywork, as well as the undercarriage, though it had to be patched in one spot on the floor behind the driver’s seat. It’s finished in White Platinum Pearl paint with vinyl graphics, and rolls on a set of American Racing Torq Thrust wheels wrapped with Mickey Thompson Sportsman ST radial tires. The trim pieces and headlight/taillights have been revived as well, either polished or chromed to make them look like new.
Inside, one will find a nice black interior courtesy of Dearborn Classics, plus air conditioning and a RetroSound Bluetooth radio that provides a vintage look with some modern tech. Mechanically speaking, the Ranchero is powered by a rebuilt 460 cubic-inch V8 that’s been fitted with a FiTech fuel injection system, paired with a rebuilt C6 automatic transmission. The car/truck also has power brakes and power steering to make it more manageable on the road.
Sold new in Southern California, this Ford Ranchero has remained in that same part of the world ever since, even in spite of its various owners and recent rejuvenation. Now, it’s looking for a new home, fresh off claiming a first-place win at the Calgary World of Wheels.

Nice but proof that later Rancheros really lost their way and forgot their true mission.
