Early this year, Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed that the automaker plans to add extended range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains options to select, large family haulers and pickups, including the Ford Super Duty. EREVs are generally seen as a solid option for those types of vehicles, combining a large battery pack with a traditional gas engine that can double as a generator, adding power back to the battery pack. Now, the Ford Expedition rivaling 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee becomes one of the very first to debut with an EREV powertrain.
The 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer debut is notable for several reasons, starting with the fact that Stellantis has opted to ditch the old Wagoneer nameplate, and will now move forward with just one model. It has been treated to some mild exterior styling updates, with a more squared-off appearance, a revamped grille, and new headlights and taillights – not to mention Jeep badging, which wasn’t present on the old Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer.
Customers can choose from regular and extended-length L variants as was previously the case, in either rear- or four-wheel drive, with just one powertrain option at launch – the familiar standard twin-turbocharged 3.0L I-6 Hurricane engine, generating 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque.
The old high-output version of that powerplant is gone, soon to be replaced by a new EREV option (or REEV, as Stellantis calls it), shared with the Ram 1500 REV. That setup consists of the gas-powered 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine feeding dual electric motors and generating 647 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. The system’s 92 kWh battery pack gives it a total driving range of 500 miles, or 150 miles of pure EV range.
Otherwise, the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer isn’t getting any other notable changes, as the interior remains largely the same, albeit with some new themes to choose from. Pricing starts out at $64,740 and climbs up to $95,985 for the range-topping Summit Obsidian trim, with the L version adding $3,000 to those tallies. Hurricane-powered examples of the refreshed SUV are scheduled to enter production later this year, while the REEV is slated to follow at an as-of-now unspecified future date.
