Ford Expedition Still Gaining Ground In Full-Size SUV Segment

The redesigned 2025 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator have been quite the hot commodity among consumers looking for a full-size SUV since both launched earlier this year. The updates present in those large SUVs have clearly resonated with consumers, as both have enjoyed tremendous demand, turning on dealer lots in rapid fashion and posting strong sales results while also conquesting customers from other brands en masse. Turns out, nothing has slowed down as it pertains to the Ford Expedition, specifically.

According to The Blue Oval’s Q3 2025 sales report, Ford Expedition sales in the third quarter of the year rose by 47.4 percent to 21,844 units, the SUV’s best Q3 result in two decades. Between April and August, the Expedition has also grown its segment share by 23 percent, increasing nearly five points compared to the same period a year ago, to 26 percent. That Q3 sales increase was also the largest of any vehicle in the Expedition’s segment, notably.

The Ford Expedition landed in second-place in terms of full-size SUV sales in the U.S., behind the segment-leading Chevy Tahoe, which racked up 30,268 sales (a 20.5 percent increase), giving it a 25 percent market share. After that (as well as the longer-wheelbase Suburban and GMC Yukon), it’s a steep drop to the Jeep Wagoneer family, which recorded 8,216 sales in Q3, a 50 percent drop that leaves it with just a seven percent share of the segment.

As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2025 Ford Expedition actually managed to outsell its chief rival, the Chevy Tahoe, in Q2 2025 – something that hasn’t happened in over five years. On top of that, Ford said that “many new owners came to us from GM vehicles,” which is rather notable. The 2025 Ford Expedition accounted for 40 percent of the entire large traditional SUV segment’s growth in the second quarter, winding up with a market share of 24.1 percent – up from 19 percent the year prior.
