Lincoln Corsair

Lincoln Corsair is an upcoming line of crossover crossover utility vehicles (CUVs), unofficially referred to as crossovers, produced by the Ford Motor Company and marketed under its luxury Lincoln brand. The Corsair replaces the MKC crossover in the Lincoln lineup.

Expectations

Here’s what we expect from the upcoming Lincoln Corsair:

• Positioning:
  • Positioned as a compact luxury crossover to replace the Lincoln MKC
  • Direct competitors include Acura RDX, Lexus NX, Cadillac XT4, Buick Envision, Volvo XC60
  • Priced to start in the mid-$35,000 range
• Availability:
  • Model believed to have been pulled ahead (pushed forward) one model year
• Exterior:
  • All-new exterior design with the latest Lincoln design language that draws heavily from the Lincoln Aviator concept previewed in the past, with a shape that has been described as being “significantly more masculine” than the outgoing model
  • A more upright shape than the first-generation MKC, with an upright front and rear ends
  • Lincoln’s all-new signature “shield” grille with high-gloss black and chrome accents
  • Wraparound liftgate that houses the complete taillight assemblies, rather than cutting the taillights in half by wrapping them around the vehicle’s body. The implementation delivers a more premium look and feel for the crossover.

• Interior:
  • All-new interior design, with improved aesthetics, luxury and comfort
  • Two rows of seating for five passengers in a 2/3 arrangement
• Platform:
  • Riding on the all-new, highly-flexible scalable Ford front-wheel-drive platform (as of June 2018, Ford has not released a name for the platform)
  • The platform will be shared with the next-gen Ford Escape (of which there will be two distinct models), Focus, and other future front-drive Ford cars and crossovers
• Powertrain:
  • Two gasoline engines mated to the new Ford 8-speed automatic transmission:
    • 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 making 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque
    • 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 making 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque
  • Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) with 2.5L I-4 engine
• Production:
  • Ford Assembly plant in Louisville, Kentucky, United States
  • A yet-to-be-determined Ford China plant
