While compiling their monthly list of the “Best Green Car Deals” in the US, website CarsDirect.com recently turned up an interesting bit of info: the 2016 Ford Focus Electric is not only the least-expensive EV to lease, but the least-expensive car of any kind, regardless of powertrain.
According to CarsDirect, a 2016 Focus Electric can be had for just $119 per month on a 36-month lease, with $669 due at signing. This is due to an increase in lease discounts to $15,000, which slashes payments by $50 per month, while the money due at signing has fallen by $1,330. Being a battery-electric vehicle, the Focus Electric also grants the lessee a $7,500 Federal Tax Credit, plus a $2,500 tax rebate if he or she lives in California.
Granted, the 2016 Ford Focus Electric obviously isn’t the latest, and Ford made some big changes for the 2017 model-year vehicle. These include an increase in battery capacity from 23 kWh to 33.5 (and a corresponding increase in range from 76 miles to an anticipated 115), as well as the introduction of DC fast-charging at up to 50 kW.
Still, if you can live with the more limited powertrain of the outgoing Focus Electric, leasing presents one heck of a deal.
A very nice example of this generation SUV.
A feature that could come in handy during extremely cold temps.
Many are carrying that debt into new vehicle purchases.
Something it did just a couple of years ago, too.
Continuing to grow its sales with each passing month.
