Lovers of speed once again congregated in Britain this year for the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed, watching countless high-powered machines rip up Lord March’s driveway in a boastful display of speed and finesse.
Pro drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. participated, sliding a built Ford Mustang RTR up the 1.2-mile road to the delight of spectators. You can watch his smoky, glorious climb up the hill in the video above.
The Mustang RTR deployed here was a “Spec-5D” model, Gittin told Top Gear recently, using a 5.0-liter “Aluminator XS” crate engine from Ford Performance and a centrifugal supercharger to achieve up to 980 horsepower at the wheels. For this run, however, Vaughn Gittin Jr. kept the power turned down to 750 rwhp – as one often does when one is a guest at Lord March’s, we imagine. It’s not quite the same car that Gittin uses in Formula D competition – that car is powered by a normally-aspirated Roush Yates 436 with a 9,000-rpm redline – but it’s nearly as impressive to behold.
