Vehicle modifications can sometimes be completed at home, but should be carried out by a professional most of the time. In the case of this Mercury Mountaineer, well, the owner decided to take matters into his own hands. When new the Mountaineer was basically a slightly fancier Ford Explorer, although the example in this video looks like it has seen much better days.
After cutting into the roof and most of the body panels behind the rear seats of this Mercury Mountaineer, the owner threw on a trusty racing helmet (because safety first), attached a ratchet strap to the rear end, held the brake pedal, and pinned the throttle. The strength of a tree on the other end of the ratchet strap allowed for the homemade cutaway conversion.
That’s what we’re calling it, anyway. We’re not exactly sure what the owners intention was with this little stunt, but we got a laugh out of it and that’s good enough for us.
The 19 second video doesn’t include any sort of explanation, and the only dialogue comes in the final seconds when the gentleman behind the camera says, “we’re dumbasses.”
