Ford Escape, Bronco Sport SUVs Recalled To Fix Incorrect Repair

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2020-2022 Ford Escape and 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport models previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 22V-859 and 24V-187. This is one of several new recalls issued to address software updates that were incorrectly applied under prior recalls, and comes on the heels of an NHTSA investigation.

The defect: in affected vehicles, a fuel injector may crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment.

The hazards: a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: fuel injectors.

Affected vehicles: select 2020-2022 Escape models produced between July 12th, 2019, and December 6th, 2022, and select 2021-2023 Bronco Sport crossovers built from July 8th, 2020, and January 12th, 2023.

Number of vehicles affected: 33,576

The fix: dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin April 24th, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S21.
