Ford Expects Big Demand For EVs As Tax Credit Set To Expire

As Ford Authority previously reported, the federal EV tax credit for consumers is now set to end on September 30th, 2025, following the passage of a new budget bill in Congress. That’s several months earlier than originally expected, leaving qualifying consumers in a bit of a rush if they want to take advantage of the discount. Even though there aren’t too many Ford vehicles that qualify these days – only the Ford F-150 Lightning gets the full $7,500, while the Ford Escape PHEV qualifies for the $3,750 credit – The Blue Oval still expects to see a surge in demand now that a deadline has been set, and it isn’t alone.

According to Invezz, Ford, Tesla, and industry insiders have all acknowledged that the soon-to-expire federal EV consumer tax credit is certain to drive quite a lot of traffic to dealers as consumers look to take advantage before it’s too late. Ford just opted to extend its Power Promise program yet again – also to the end of September, ironically, which sweetens that pot even more by offering EV buyers a home charger and standard installation for free, along with various other benefits. The automaker also launched its new “Zero, Zero, Zero” incentive, which provides qualified buyers of select models zero percent interest for 48 months with $0 down and no payments for 90 days.

Tesla went so far as to add a banner to its website stating “Federal Tax Credit Ending $7,500. Delivery Due By September 30, 2025.” Those automakers aren’t alone, as several industry insiders believe that an influx of buyers are about to hit dealers in an attempt to purchase a new EV at a discount. “We believe (the third quarter) will see a significant EV pre-buy, with sharp declines in the months to follow,” Barclays analysts wrote in a recent note from the investment firm.

“If anyone hasn’t purchased an EV yet, they’re likely to be encouraged to do so in the third quarter,” said Sam Fiorani, vice president of AutoForecast Solutions. “Consumers believe there is a deadline to reach now.”

  1. Nope the sales bump will be as non-existent and fake as the predicate nonsense that CO2 leads to global warming.
