Ford Rival Honda Debuts Adapter For Tesla Chargers

Back in May 2023, Ford signed a deal with Tesla that granted Blue Oval EV owners access to the latter company’s Supercharger network, a move that quite literally set one giant wheel in motion, as many others followed suit shortly thereafter. That move has also started an industry-wide transition to the North American Charging Standard (NACS) that Tesla utilizes, with those types of ports being added as standard equipment in many new EVs. Honda was among the automakers that signed a similar deal with Tesla, and now, it has debuted an adapter that enables its EV owners to use Superchargers, too.

As was the case with many others, Honda EVs have been equipped with Combined Charging System (CCS) ports for some time, meaning that they need an adapter to use NACS chargers. Ford launched its own OEM certified CCS-to-NACS adapter this past March, and now, Honda has done precisely the same thing. Honda customers can purchase the new, OEM approved DC fast-charging adapter from authorized Honda and Acura dealerships in the U.S. or online at the Honda DreamShop website for a retail price of $225.

This new adapter – which is the only one tested by Honda for performance and compatibility – grants Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX owners access to more than 23,500 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. The company only recommends using approved adapters when charging at Tesla Supercharger stations, as any damage resulting from the use of an unapproved adapter may not be covered under a vehicle’s limited warranty.

“Planning a road trip just got a lot easier for our Honda and Acura EV owners with access to the Tesla Supercharger network,” said Ryan Harty, assistant vice president of Sustainability & Business Development at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Combined with other growing charging networks, Honda and Acura EV drivers now have added peace of mind with a wider range of dependable DC fast charging options nationwide.”
