In Europe and the UK, the Ford Transit Custom has long ranked as the top-selling van of any kind, but its larger counterpart – the Ford Transit – never lags too far behind. In the UK, the Ford Transit ranked third in light-commercial vehicle (LCV) sales in February, followed by another third place finish in March, after which the full-size van moved up to second place in April and May. Now that we’ve moved on from June, the latest sales figures reveal that the Ford Transit didn’t budge from its runner-up spot in the UK last month or over the first half of the year, either.
According to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the Ford Transit recorded 2,878 sales in the month of June across the UK, which was good enough for second place, behind only the Transit Custom. As for the first half of 2025, the Transit also ranked second in light commercial vehicle and van sales, moving 13,886 units – once again, behind the Transit Custom, and ahead of the Ford Ranger, to boot.
As for the overall UK LCV market, it didn’t quite fare as well. In fact, sales for light commercial vehicles in that part of the world actually decreased by 12.1 percent to 156,048 units across the first half of the year, as June marked the seventh consecutive month of drops – this time, by 14.8 percent.
“Half a year of declining demand for new vans reflects a difficult economic climate and weak business confidence and the fact that this downturn comes just as industry invests heavily to expand its zero emission LCV offering is particularly concerning,” said SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes. “Decarbonization remains a shared ambition but with the EV market more than a third below this year’s target, bold measures are needed to drive demand. Accelerated CV infrastructure rollout, quicker grid connections and streamlined planning are now critical.”
