The Ford Mustang GT3 is nothing if not resilient. Not too long ago, in the DTM Series, a Mustang GT3 driven by David Schumacher, Dennis Fetzer, and Salman Owega rebounded from early race contact to win the 2025 24h Nürburgring. Stateside, at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), another Mustang proved that it’s got a tough bloodline, winning the GT World Challenge America race on July 20th, 2025 despite issues with its steering system.
The No. 6 Ford Mustang GT3, fielded by Dollahite Racing, lunged into the lead early, compliments of driver Eric Powell. However, contact triggered a slew of steering problems in the pony car, making it difficult to wrangle it around VIR. Just before the halfway point, the No. 163 AF Corse USA Ferrari 296 GT of Oswaldo Negri was able to pass the No. 6 Mustang, claiming the lead for a short while.
The No. 6 Ford Mustang GT3 never gave up, though. Powell swapped the controls to Scott Dollahite for the second stint of the race. Battling through steering issues, Dollahite managed to shoulder his way into the race lead. From there, he never looked back, guiding the racing pony to the win in the series’ Am class.
“There was a little incident at the start,” Dollahite said after the race. “It knocked the steering a little loose, but it’s a tough car! We had a blast out there.”

His partner, Powell, also praised the Mustang racer. “I am just so excited to be here,” he said. “P3 [overall] is a dream. There’s so many legends out here and the field is stacked. It’s great to be amongst those guys. Thank you to Scott and the whole team for bringing me on. The Ford Mustang GT3 is just so awesome.”
The Ford Mustang GT3 has been racking up the wins. It recently carried Haupt Racing Team to a one-two finish in the recent ADAC GT Masters race at the Nürburgring on July 13th, 2025
