1974 Ford Gran Torino From ‘Starsky & Hutch’ Movie Up For Auction

The Ford Gran Torino that appeared in the TV series (and movie) Starsky and Hutch is easily one of the most widely recognized vehicles ever to grace the small or big screen, and as such, we routinely see replicas of that model pop up for auction. Finding a real example of that same famous ride is a more difficult task, given the fact that not many of them were used – and even fewer survived filming. Now, however, one of those scant Starsky and Hutch movie examples of the Ford Gran Torino is up for auction.

This 1974 Ford Gran Torino is number one of nine such cars used in the filming of the 2004 Starsky and Hutch movie, and it’s currently up for grabs at Kraft Auctions right now. It certainly isn’t in perfect condition, as there’s some bubbling in the paint and cracking where Bondo was used to straighten the bodywork, which is still covered in the signature red hue with white stripes. Regardless, it’s also a rare opportunity to own something special.

Other than the need for some bodywork, this Ford Gran Torino remains in pretty solid condition, with a clean black interior, plus signature features such as a rooftop-mounted red flashing light and police radio.

It’s powered by a modified version of the Ford 360 cubic-inch V8 that reportedly sends 435 horsepower to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission. The car runs and drives, but it’s unclear what the actual mileage is – the listing just notes that 1,145 miles are showing on the odometer.

There is no doubt that more than a few folks will be interested in this movie star car, however, especially one that still holds a spot in the hearts of many Starsky and Hutch fans. We’ve seen loads of replicas and a few real-deal examples surface for sale recently – mostly based on the TV series – including one based on a 1975 Gran Torino, as well as a static picture car used in the series and one of three surviving examples from that same TV show.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
