These days, the 11th generation Ford Thunderbird is a regular sight on collector car auction sites, which isn’t terribly surprising given its retro styling that hearkens back to the original model from the 1950s. Lots of folks stashed their new T-Birds away thinking that one day, they’d be worth huge money, but that hasn’t panned out – in fact, it just means there are loads of low-mile, barely-used examples to choose from, oftentimes at great prices. Whether or not that’ll be the case with this new addition to that group remains to be seen, but it’s a very nice example of a 2002 Ford Thunderbird, regardless.
This 2002 Ford Thunderbird is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 4,900 miles on the clock, and it looks no worse for wear as a result. This T-Bird is finished in Torch Red paint with a matching removable hardtop, as well as a power-operated Midnight Black convertible soft top. It rolls on the original set of 17-inch seven-spoke chrome Premium wheels, which are currently wrapped with 235/50 Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 red-line tires.
Inside the cabin, this Thunderbird features the Full Color Accent Package, which added Torch Red accents to the black leather power-adjustable bucket seats, lower dashboard and console, door trim inserts, shift knob, and steering wheel. Otherwise, one will find some nice amenities including dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and an AM/FM stereo with an in-dash CD changer.
As is the case with all Ford Thunderbird models from this generation, power comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.9L V8, which in this guise was factory-rated to produce 252 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.
Among this and the many other modern T-Birds we’ve spotted at auction as of late, that list also includes quite a few other nice, low-mile examples – such as another 2002 model with 3k miles, as well as a 2003 007 Edition with 5k miles.
