2023-2025 Ford F-150 Recalled Over Rear Axle Hub Bolt Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023-2025 Ford F-150 models over an issue with the rear axle hub bolt.

The defect: in affected vehicles – which are equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and 9.75-inch heavy duty axle with the 3/4 float axle design – the rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, which can result in damage to the axle hub splines.

The hazards: damaged axle hub splines can result in a vehicle rollaway when in park without the parking brake applied or cause a loss of drive power. Either of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: rear axle hub bolt

Affected vehicles: select 2023-2025 Ford F-150 models equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and 9.75-inch heavy duty axle with the 3/4 float axle design produced between January 2nd, 2023, and May 21st, 2025.

Number of vehicles affected: 103,174

The fix: dealers will replace the left and right rear axle shaft assemblies, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin August 18th, 2025. The Ford reference number for this recall is 25S82.

  1. That’s 96 now! They will be eating good in the executive dining room by weeks end if all goes as planned. Probably should do a massive #100 balloon release but they are on the flight path to DTW

  2. This is old news. Ford has already (finally) put out the fix for the Max Tow axle issue. But I believe it affected trucks in production from the beginning of the Gen 14 in 2021? I don’t have Max Tow so it doesn’t affect me but I’ve seen so many on forums and in person who’ve all had the little rattling bolt head noise cause panic.

  3. 2021 Lariat, SC 6.5 max tow. Finally got this recall done recently at 68000. Never an issue, no rattles, and nothing wrong when axles were pulled. No reason at all to be concerned. HOWEVER: with all this ridiculous push for model consolidation, I am not seeing any current models that fit my interests. Prefer higher line (Lariat), but totally dislike 4 door and plainer interiors (cloth, no console, column shift). Am looking toward trade at some point and guess I’ll have to look beyond F150
