The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E was treated to some notable updates for its latest model year, and the EV crossover remains a favorite among critics as a result. The Mach-E retained its spot on Consumer Reports‘ Best EVs of 2025 list just last week, in fact, and also beat the refreshed Tesla Model Y in a comparison test conducted by the folks at MotorTrend. Now, the same rag has pitted the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E against six other rivals – including the Model Y – and it once again managed to come out on top of the pack.
In this new comparison test, MotorTrend lined up the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E against the Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Toyota bZ, Chevrolet Equinox EV, and Volkswagen ID4. The idea was to focus on things like performance, range, charging, handling, and value, with all sporting the largest possible battery and all-wheel drive, though GM provided it with a base, FWD Equinox EV. In its real-world 70 mph range test, the Kia EV6 came out on top at 266 miles, while the Mach-E ranked third at 252 miles.
The EV6 also won the charging speed battle by adding 160 miles in 15 minutes using a 350 kWh charger, while the Mach-E ranked near the bottom of the pack at 95 miles. However, out on the road, MT noted that the “Mach-E is by far the most fun to drive, with a character that actually feels connected, however faintly, to the traditional Mustang. In a time when EVs are often criticized for lacking personality, the Mach-E stands out with its smooth torque delivery, good lateral grip, and confident body control.”
Thanks to those attributes, along with providing strong value for the money, the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E came out on top in this comparison. “Small updates over the years have made the Mach-E a better vehicle overall, and it performs strongly in multiple categories, delivering good range, a spacious cabin, and exciting driving dynamics,” MotorTrend concluded. “Other EVs may better the Mach-E in individual aspects, but taken as a whole, this Ford delivers in spades.”
