Among its various well-documented quality woes, rearview camera-related issues have plagued Ford perhaps more than any other, particularly in the U.S. There, The Blue Oval has recalled well over a million vehicles to date, largely due to issues that can cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or the image may remain on the display after the backing event has ended. Now, several Ford models in Australia are being recalled for the very same reason.
According to CarExpert, select 2018-2023 Ford Ranger, Focus, Mustang, Endura, and Escape models are being recalled in Australia over an error with the SYNC software that can result in the rearview camera image not displaying when those vehicles are in reverse, and in some cases, the image can remain on the display after reversing, too. Additionally, users may wind up seeing a blank image on the screen, an incorrect language setting, or experience the inability to receive software updates.
If the rearview image doesn’t display properly when reversing, this could result in a safety issue by increasing the risk of an accident. A grand total of 167 vehicles are impacted by the problem, which can be fixed with a visit to one’s local Ford dealer. Those that own one of these models can see if their specific VIN is included in the recall by heading over here.
Back in May, Ford recalled more than one million vehicles in the U.S. over the same exact rearview camera issue, which covered a wide array of models in its current lineup, and later expanded that action to include more vehicles this past June. To fix the problem, Ford is instructing dealers to update the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software in some cases, which can also be done by owners via an over-the-air update at their own homes.

Ford Motor Company’s terrible recall record is now worldwide, no Ford product, regardless of which country its built in, or sold in is immune from recalls, yet Failure Farley gets to keep his job and his $26 million/year paycheck.
