Ford Bronco Sport Refresh On Track For 2028, May Include Hybrid

The Ford Bronco Sport was just treated to its first mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year, an update that brought forth changes such as the new Sasquatch Package, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and a larger 13.2-inch center SYNC 4 infotainment screen, to name just a few. The refreshed Bronco Sport started landing on dealer lots just this past January, but as is always the case in the automotive world, we’re already anticipating the next update, which is reportedly on track for the near future.

According to Automotive News, the Ford Bronco Sport is currently expected to receive its next refresh in 2028, which could include the introduction of a long-awaited hybrid powertrain option for the more rugged crossover. With the Ford Escape set to be discontinued at the conclusion of the 2026 model year, the Bronco Sport will take on a more important role in the automaker’s lineup, so such an addition could prove key.

At the same time, a more comprehensive redesign for the Ford Bronco Sport now isn’t expected to happen before the end of the current decade. This is a notable change from a prior report that surfaced in September 2024, claiming that the Bronco Sport redesign was on track for 2027. Regardless, we’ve known for some time that all Ford Blue models (the automaker’s ICE-focused division) are slated to get at least one hybrid powertrain option by 2030, making it seemingly a lock that the Bronco Sport’s forthcoming refresh will add one.

In the meantime, the 2025 Ford Bronco Sport was treated to a variety of updates that include slightly revised exterior styling, Ford’s 360-Degree Camera with Trail View, along with the aforementioned Sasquatch Package. That option adds a bevy of off-road-focused upgrades such as 29-inch 235/65/R17 Goodyear Territory All-Terrain tires, a new Rally GOAT mode, a standard front brush guard, skid plates, four recovery points, integrated tie-downs, Bilstein rear shocks with position-sensitive damping and piggyback reservoirs, plus new front and rear springs that increase ride height by four-tenths of an inch over the Badlands model.

  1. They need to make the 2.0 as standard on all trims. Ditch the 1.5 three cylinder.

    1. I’d agree. Simplify the supply line, give the Little Mule the power it should have across the board. Especially with the relaxation of the CAFE rules and the wider spread of EV’s and hybrids of all varieties.
