Contrary to what seems to have become popular belief, stop signs are not a suggestion. Nor are they a yield sign. It’s best practice to actually come to a complete stop at a stop sign, check both ways, and then proceed with caution, but the driver of one Ford F-150 apparently failed to do so, rolling through a stop sign and sideswiping an innocent motorist in a recent viral dashcam capture.
The video was posted by the original recorder – or “cammer” – to the r/IdiotsInCars community on Reddit. The title says “I ‘swerved’ in front of him last second,” implying that the driver of the Ford F-150 attempted to put blame on the cammer, even though it’s clear it was the pickup’s fault.
The cammer is traveling straight on a residential road when they approach an intersection. The red Ford F-150 is seen to the cammer’s left approaching the stop sign. While they slow down, they never bring their pickup to a complete halt, creating a dangerous situation as they begin rolling again – right as the cammer passes them.
The video does not show the impact directly, but it’s quite obvious what happens. The cammer, unfortunately aware of their impending doom, lays on the horn, but it does little to deter the F-150. Then, the impact: a sickening crunch of metal on metal, squealing tires, and the unhappy jerk of two vehicles coming into contact.
Interestingly, some commenters are actually defending the driver of the Ford F-150 in the comments, blaming the color of the cammer’s car against the similarly colored asphalt, or the supposed A-pillar blind spot affecting the F-150. While that may have played a part, the crux of the issue is that the pickup’s driver was simply not paying attention, creating a dangerous situation that really had no reason to happen at all.
A different Ford F-150 blew through a stop sign and had some words for the bicyclist they almost hit. Another F-150 driver also apparently failed to pay attention, sideswiping a passing motorist in a completely avoidable situation.
