One of the easiest ways to get into a rear-end collision is to just hang out in the slow lane not paying attention. That’s exactly what the driver of one Ford F-150 managed to do in a recent viral dashcam capture. It could have gone worse, but the incident certainly gave passing motorists a bit of a scare.
Hosted on the Reddit community r/IdiotsInCars, the video was captured by a driver traveling behind the involved Ford F-150. Appropriately, they titled their post “Almost had a heart attack yesterday!” And we can see why. Everything appears to be progressing as normal. A lifted F-150 with some interesting wheels can be seen to the cammer’s right, and right away, we can see that something isn’t right.
The Ford F-150 isn’t slowing down in response to another vehicle slowing in front of them, which was off the pace because of a third vehicle turning right off the highway in front of them. It’s not clear if the driver of the F-150 is distracted, but that’s the only real explanation we can think of, because they don’t slow down. They continue to drive like nothing’s happening in front of them, so it’s safe to assume their attention was somewhere other than the road.
Finally, they notice that traffic is all but stopped in front of them. Their immediate reaction is to yank their pickup out of the way, which would be all well and good, if they hadn’t decided to execute such a maneuver directly in front of the cammer. The cammer reacts immediately, jerking their vehicle over to the left to avoid being sideswiped.
Thankfully, this incident didn’t unfold into a multicar crash. The Ford F-150 slinks back into its lane as the cammer passes them, carrying on – although, hopefully, they learned a lesson and will pay attention to the road in front of them. But, hey, they did better than this F-150, almost rammed a Chevy Silverado off the highway for daring to pass them. Or this Ford Escape, which made a series of questionable choices behind the wheel.
