1991 Ford Mustang Royal Canadian Mounted Police Diecast Out Now

Diecast cars appeal to enthusiasts and model collectors alike, and collectors looking to build their own fleet of mini cop cars are in luck thanks to Greenlight Collectibles’ latest line of Canadian police-inspired models. The 1:64 scale diecasts are based on real-life vehicles that graced the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), including the 1991 Ford Mustang.

The 1991 Ford Mustang features vintage RCMP graphics, right down to the blue-and-white livery with RCMP crests emblazoned on the doors. It also features emergency lights and period-correct steel wheels, selling the tiny pony car’s pursuit-ready expression.

As a reminder, the real-life 1991 Ford Mustang SSP was a police car package based on the Fox Body Mustang built between 1982 and 1993. The lightweight pony was marketed as an alternative to heavier sedans – like the Ford Crown Victoria – offering better handling and higher speeds. Over 15,000 examples of the pursuit-rated Mustang were purchased by federal and local law enforcement agencies in almost every U.S. state and, of course, the RCMP.

The 1991 Ford Mustang police car harnessed the familiar 5.0L V8 engine and included upgrades like an engine oil cooler, transmission oil cooler, heavy duty alternators, reinforced floor pans, and more. Most examples were fitted with an automatic transmission, keeping one of the driver’s hands free while driving so they could more easily use the radio.

Though many Ford Mustang police cars from the 1980s and early 1990s are retired, some are still in service to this day. Many decommissioned examples found new life on the drag racing scene, favored for their heavy duty frames and suspension, as well as the large aftermarket industry of 5.0L V8 Mustang parts.

The 1991 Ford Mustang is just one of several in the new RCMP line from Greenlight, including several Blue Oval models. It joins the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria, the 1991 GMC Suburban, 2015 Ford Transit, 2024 Ford Police Interceptor Utility, and 2018 Dodge Charger in the collection. Each sports a RCMP inspired livery.
